Ornamental Gardens at the Central Experimental Farm

Bldg. 72, Arboretum, Central Experimental Farm, K1A 0C6, Ottawa, Ontario

An 8-acre showcase of hardy perennials and shrubs developed in Canada and collected from around the world. Many of the lilacs and roses are proudly Canadian-bred. The Ornamental Gardens display historic and new varieties of flowers and shrubs for the amateur gardener and general public. Once used as a test facility for the development of winter hardy roses, weigela and peonies, it now acts as the steward to several large collections of ornamentals. The Gardens include a Heritage Rose garden, Explorer Rose garden, Preston Lilac collection, Saunders Peony and Iris collections, Macoun sunken garden, rock garden, perennial and annual beds and hedge collections. Visitors can park in a small parking lot off the NCC Driveway or in the Agriculture and Food Museum parking lot off Prince of Wales Drive.

Open to the public from dawn to dusk year around.                                                                                                                       For information about events on the Farm, see the Friends of the Farm website.
